What do you want to do?

Over the last 40 years, India has lost over 1/3 of the wetlands. About 163 million people lack access to clean drinking water. The need of the hour is not just for people to get access to clean water but to create and maintain a reserve for the future.

This is what Uttar Pradesh’s Ramveer Tanwar realised. Today, he is on a mission to create freshwater reserves across India.

Taking Risks

When Ramveer decided to quit his job in 2018, he had two missions. One was to convince his family, and the other was to focus on water restoration on a national scale.  It took him some time to convince them as he was the first person in his family to receive a college education and secure a good job.

Once he convinced his family, he started out on his second mission. He worked on fulfilling this mission, but he exhausted all his savings within the first 5-6 months.

However, this was a risk he was willing to take.

Life goals can be achieved through financial planning. However, as you grow in life, there may come a time when you will have to make decisions that you did not anticipate making. These decisions may cause a dent in your finances. Nevertheless, it would be a calculated risk that you would be willing to take.

Prioritising Life

Ramveer did not let this deter him from his goal. While he was working on restoring water reserves, he started tutoring children to sustain his household. This helped him to continue doing what he loved.

Financial planning became his next priority. He knew that this was what would help him secure his family’s future while enabling him to work towards his goal. Ramveer firmly believes that to pursue one’s passion; you need to be willing to take risks. Risks can only be embraced when other aspects of life are protected.

Financial planning helps in creating a cushion for your family that can help in fulfilling life goals. It helps in building reserves for the future while securing and safeguarding wealth.

Building a future

Since 2018, Ramveer has helped restore over 80 ponds in 12 cities in 6 states. Ponds have been recharged with over 1260 million litres of groundwater. Today, Ramveer is called the ‘Pondman of India’.  He says that just as we save funds and financially plan for our children’s future, water conservation is also the need of the hour.

Now is the time to create a change and build a financially secure future. HDFC Life's Behind the Journey campaign is an ode to people like Ramveer who are willing to risk their present to create a secure future. His journey to save the environment is a testimony that taking a calculated risk can work wonders and help you attain your goals.
