Why Heart Needs More Care In Winter Mornings HDFC Life

December 11, 2018

The health of our heart is of utmost importance and due cardiac care must be taken to ensure that the heart stays in a healthy and robust condition at all times. Owing to factors like unhealthy lifestyle practices, smoking, excessive drinking, chronic stress, lack of exercise etc, the cardiac health of a person gets impacted severely and often, a minor issue with blood circulation escalates into a full blown heart disorder, if due care is not taken. Heart disorders were earlier perceived to be associated with old age groups. However, as the growing trends now reflect, even young adults are falling victims to coronary disorders due to many reasons like unhealthy lifestyle choices.

Among the various factors that have an effect on the heart condition of a person, the outside weather and general climate also counts among the chief ones.

In winters, when the external temperature takes a dip, the heart pumps blood in such a manner that the body temperature is maintained. As per leading cardiologists, during winters, due to the excess work done by the heart and the entire cardiac system, the proportion of risks associated with a heart condition increases. The heart muscles and the blood circulation system, owing to the burdened mechanism are vulnerable to many ill conditions and disorders, if proper attention is not given.

During winters, in major cities across India, air quality is relatively poor and this also adds to the problem. For certain vulnerable segments of society, like senior or super senior citizens and people who already have a heart condition, it is very essential to remain more careful about their heart during the winters. There is a direct correlation between the varying cold temperatures and the onset of heart-related disorders. One more important factor is the overall lack of proper sunlight in winters. Now, we all know that sunlight is an excellent source of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is associated with a number of heart and blood circulation benefits. In the absence of proper sunlight and hence, of Vitamin D, the probability of weakness of heart and deterioration of arteries increases significantly.

The general categories of people, who are obese, have high blood sugar rates or experience frequent heart palpitations also come in the vulnerable category. The symptoms include unexplained fatigue, difficulty in breathing wheezing, mild to severe pain in the jaw line and left arm, profuse sweating, nausea etc. This may be a result of plaque build-up in the arteries and general weakness of heart muscles. Even if you experience mild forms of these symptoms, it still becomes pertinent for you to seek medical assistance immediately.

As the saying goes prevention is better than cure and there are a number of preventive tips that you must follow to ensure that your heart stays healthy during winters. One of these is to follow a proper diet and fitness regimen. However, strenuous outdoor exercises must be avoided in winters. The best course is to work out indoors, with focus on aerobic exercises. Yoga is one of the best courses of mind-body wellness and can greatly improve your heart health. Also look for a heart care specific health insurance plan.
