Five things to do for maintaining cardiac health naturally

Heart is the most important organ of the body. It pumps blood to the rest of the body which ensures our organs function smoothly. Ignoring heart health can lead to complications and discomfort.

There are a few things you can do to maintain a good cardiac health in spite the age:

  1. Exercise:

    Exercising improves heart health and helps you stay physically active. Sedentary lifestyle has harmful effects on the heart and can lead to abnormal cholesterol levels and diabetes. Try to spend 30 minutes a day performing a physical activity of your liking.
  2. Eat well:

    Food has a direct relation with our heart. What we eat acts as a fuel for our body. Avoid junk food, sweets, colas and fried items. Eat more of green vegetables and fruits and foods that are high in fiber.
  3. Quit smoking:

    Smoking narrows down the blood vessels and harms the tissues in our lungs and heart. It a habit you are better off without. If you are a non-smoker, you should also ensure to avoid passive smoking.
  4. Manage your diabetes:

    It is important to manage your blood sugar levels at all times. It can prevent a stroke or heart attack and help you stay healthy.
  5. Manage your hypertension:

    If you suffer from high or low blood pressure, ask your doctor for advice. It can be managed with a few lifestyle changes and medicines.
  6. Manage your cholesterol:

    High cholesterol can lead to blockage and is not good for heart health. Eating right, exercising and taking medicines as advised by your physician will help you keep cholesterol under control.
  7. Maintain a healthy body weight:

    Obesity gives rise to problems like diabetes, hypertension, etc. Maintaining a healthy body weight can help you in maintain a good heart health.
  8. Avoid alcohol:

    A few drinks occasionally are fine, but making it a habit can lead to problems. Alcohol contains empty calories and it also increases the blood pressure and heart rate. It is a temporary solution that gives rise to permanent health problems. It is better to avoid alcohol completely.
