Cardiac Care – Don’t Let Blockages Block You

Cardiac Care
May 18, 2023

Whenever you’re walking down a path, or driving down a particular road, if you hit a blockage along the way, you simply find a way around it. If the pathway ahead is uneven, you tread carefully. Or, if the road ahead is blocked, you find yourself an alternate route. Sadly, not all blockages are easily avoided. This is something that Suresh Menon found out in his early 40s.

A comedian and actor, Suresh was accustomed to looking in the mirror. Unfortunately, the only thing the mirror ever showed him was his happy, smiling face. Or the face of the character he was about to portray. Unfortunately, the mirror couldn’t show Suresh that his heart wasn’t working as well as it should have been. His arteries were getting blocked, but there was no way Suresh could have seen it. After all, how do you check what’s going on in your heart?

India is facing a major problem with Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs). And while most of us simply assume that only old people suffer from clots and heart attacks, nothing could be further from the truth. In India, 50% of heart attacks are seen in individuals who are under 50 years of age, and 25% of heart attacks affect Indians who are less than 40. With figures like that, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that people in their 30s and 40s are also being diagnosed with blockages.

Suresh Menon was one such individual. The doctors found a 90% blockage in his artery. Thankfully, they were able to find a way around it with a stent. With the number of CVD cases in India on the rise, let’s take a look at a few things we can do to help alleviate the problem:

1. Better Diet

To start with, we can change our diets to ensure we’re eating food that has less trans fat and more fibre. Fried foods should be kept to an absolute minimum and we should increase our intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.

2. Regular Exercise

You don’t need to hit the gym for an hour every day to stay fit. Even brisk walking or jogging for 30 minutes every day can keep your heart healthy.

3. Kicking Unhealthy Habits

Smoking and excessive drinking will only damage your body. It’s a good idea to stop smoking and try and avoid second-hand smoke as well. Drinking in moderation isn’t too bad, but if it can be avoided, it’s healthier.

4. Health Insurance

Even if you live a healthy lifestyle, certain genetic factors could make you more susceptible to a CVD. There’s no fool proof way to safeguard yourself against clots, strokes, or heart attacks. At such times, having the financial ability to pay for the treatment for these conditions is vital.

Suresh knew that he needed two things to find a way around his blockage. He needed the will to change his lifestyle, and the money to pay for his stent procedure. The comedian had all the willpower he needed, but the money isn’t as easy to come by. This is why purchasing health insurance plan is of vital importance. At a trying time in your life, insurance will provide you and your family with a much-needed security net. So, if you’re ready to protect your finances against the financial burden associated with CVDs, click here to get yourself insurance. After all, you don’t want to rely on anybody else to help you around a blockage – do you?
