At a Young Age, Not So Young at Heart

September 27, 2018

In this day and age, young heart patients have become so common that doctors are no longer surprised when they get patients who are in their mid-20s or early 30s.

According to doctors the trend started in mid-2000s when they started to get such young patients with blocked arteries or had had a heart attack.

The worrying trend of heart patients under 40s led to a study which revealed that many of these patients suffered the worst form of heart disease like blocked left anterior descending (LAD) artery which is the biggest heart artery and its blockage means long-term effect on the heart.

LAD blockage is one of the most common reason for heart attack among all age groups but was never considered a problem of the young till recently.

In recent times the unhealthy lifestyle, pollution and constant work pressure has increased the total number of young cardiac patients who are under-25 patients from two per cent that is four patients in every 1000 cases to shocking 25 per cent that is 206 patients in every 1000 cases.

The percentage of under-45 patients has also doubled from 3.5 percent to 7.3 percent within a gap of 7 years.

Certain steps like regular exercise, healthy eating habits and regular health check- ups can not only help a person stay heathy but also prevent heart blockage which causes heart attacks and/or long-term heart complications.

Regular check-ups will also help the person find out about underlying health complications early on and thus he/she can fight it before it becomes complicated and has long term effects.

While prevention is always better than cure, one needs to realise that with years the person’s health also deteriorates and the cost of medical coverage also goes up, especially if you are a patient who has a heart disease or complicated medical history.

To cover these medical costs, especially in case of heart –related issues, the treatment of which is much more expensive, one needs to plan for it in advance and take a medical plan which not only provides basic coverage but also provide adequate coverage.

HDFC Life presents HDFC Life Cardiac Care plan – a plan that has been formulated specifically keeping in mind the financial framework of heart treatment. For details, kindly click the mentioned link: https://www.hdfclife.com/health-insurance-plans/cardiac-care
